Kraig James is a singer/songwriter/promoter from the outskirts of Duluth, MN. He writes and sings thoughtful, catchy, toe- tapping campfire tunes with a heartfelt delivery, inspired by the many great musicians he's met and heard in Northern Minnesota. James started his career in the early 90's when he traded a hand-built computer for a Kay bass and Stella acoustic with a guy who ran lights for the 'Dead. Later in the '90's, he was a member of the Twin Cities indie-pop-rock band Busy Signal, playing shows at venues like the old 400 Bar, Medina, the MN State Fair Bandshell, and the 7th Street Entry. His roots pulled him back up north the the Duluth area where he took over a decade off from performing to raise kids and put his energies into songwriting, promotions and festivals. In 2002, he co-founded the Highway 61 Folks Festival with his good friend Jim Myhre where they were lucky enough to book Trampled by Turtles for one of their first gigs. Kraig James now actively hosts a Songwriters Series at the Streetcar Kitchen and Pub in Carlton, and helps organize the Northern Train Music Festival at Mont Du Lac. He has opened for the likes of Teague Alexy, Bill and Kate Isles, Dedric Clark, Diet Folk, Saint Anyway, Colleen Myhre, and the Brothers Burn Mountain. Most of his playing, however, is around campfires or in fish houses during the winter. Kraig James is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International.
