From the chirping birds of spring, through the buzzing insects and summer storms, through the inebriated fall festivities, to the icy chill of winter, Antonio Vivaldi's Four Seasons performed by the Milwaukee Symphony's brilliant concertmaster Frank Almond highlights a program of three perennial favorites. The Impressionistic French Claude Debussy's masterpiece of orchestral colors, Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, is followed by Sir Edward Elgar's compelling set of 14 variations, each one a tongue-in-cheek musical depiction of one his friends. Elgar took the meaning of the 'enigma' to his grave with him. Can you tell what it is?
