Glensheen announces the extension of the rare and unusual “Obscura” exhibit.

Tours / Museums
Date: Monday, August 30 12:00 AM - Sunday, October 31 12:00 AM

Venue: Glensheen Mansion

Obscura showcases the items that live behind closed doors in the mansion. Many of these exhibit pieces were purchased by the Congdon family on their expansive worldly travels. Highlights of the exhibit include century-old children’s toys, bison fur blankets, and lamps fueled by something other than crude oil. Due to Obscura’s popularity among guests, Glensheen has decided to give everyone a chance to see this one-of-a-kind exhibit by extending it through October 31.

All tour guests that visit Glensheen this fall will have a chance to examine the Obscura objects as close as if they were the Congdon’s themselves. Be sure to hurry, come November 1 Obscura will have crept from view and be once again hidden away in the mansion.

Extended Hours for Labor Day

Glensheen is also offering extended hours for more opportunities to see Obscura and to optimize the 12-acre estate and 27,000 square foot mansion for proper physical distancing. Glensheen’s Labor Day Hours:

Tour Enhancements

Cider Shack

The lakeside Cider Shack will be open every Saturday in September and October from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm. The Cider Shack is located right on the shore of Lake Superior and highlights some of the amazing local cideries in Duluth. With hard cider from Duluth Cider and Wild State Cider, fall-themed cocktails, and cider for kids available for purchase there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Find Alice in Wonderland Characters and Cards

Last, but certainly not least, The Alice in Wonderland Characters and Cards Search is happening during tour hours from Wednesday, September 1 – Thursday, September 30. There are 18 Alice in Wonderland caricatures and jumbo playing cards are hidden throughout the mansion and estate for kids (or kids-at-heart) to eye-spy during the month of September.

Why Alice in Wonderland? Glensheen is a part of the University of Minnesota Duluth and that makes us a great place to host UMD’s production of Alice in Wonderland. UMD’s Theater will be performing throughout September. Be sure to stay tuned for more details. Once guests have found all 18 caricatures and cards they can proclaim their success with an Honorary Wonderland Member tattoo!
